Robert (Richard) Riches
« on: Friday 30 June 23 01:59 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find information on Robert (Richard) Riches for a friend whose husband's family believe they were related to him via marriage.  He was an artist and spent time in the Mosman, Sirius Cove area painting scenes of the water.  I believe he was born c.1860 but that could have been in England.  I did find a birth at Downham in the second quarter of 1860. There is one Downham in Lancashire and another at Lewisham near London.  There is one birth in NSW in 1870 (10 years later).
Possible marriages in NSW were between 1980 - 1902 for either a 'Robert' or 'Richard'.
Possible deaths in NSW were between 1901 - 1952 for either a 'Robert' or 'Richard'.
I haven't been able to find much on the internet about him other than he was apparently an Australian Physician and Amateur painter based in Mosman.
Any help would be appreciated.

Although he is addressed as Dr and probably was qualified, there is not a registration listed for him in 1882,

Gazette NSW
Reproduced from the originals in the Dixson Library, University of New England.

The news items I have seen speak more of his artistic work, except for this -
An anatomical illustrator. 1899

"a friend whose husband's family believe they were related to him via marriage".

What reason do they have to believe this?. There must be something....family artefact, photograph...what?

FindMyPast has one hit for  Richard Riches on the reg of Britain, Physicians and Surgeons, 1830-1923  but I have not access.

I can't immediately see an immigration that might fit.
