counterchanged

The Noseworthy coat of arms is shown in Papworth as
Gu. a pile and a chev. or counterchanged of the field

I would have expected
party per pale gules and or a pile and a chevron counterchanged

Does counterchanged imply parted per pale if no partition is mentioned?

The usual term is countercharged - changing tinctures (colours).

A pile is a triangular shape, point down.
A chevron is an upside-down "V" shape.
Party per pale means divided vertically.

So:
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thanks for responding although I disagree about countercharged.

If a blazon starts "Gu. a pile and a chev. or" I assume that the field is red and the charges gold.  If no partition is mentioned, how does one know that it is per pale, rather than per fesse for example?

Does "counterchanged of the field" imply per pale?

Both charges (pile and chevron) are identical around the vertical axis.

I think the counter charge/change is therefore implied about that axis.

"Gules a pile and a chevron Or counterchanged of the field."

This is the emblazonment of that blazon -

Whannell - Eaton - Jackson
India - Scotland - Australia

Thanks.  Clearly not the same coat.  But consistent with Papworth not mentioning a partition.

Just checked online in Burke's General Armory 1884, p811.

For NOSEWORTHY it matches Papworth.  Gu. a pile and chev. or, counterchanged of the field.

For NOSWORTHY it has Per Pale gu. and or, a chev. and a pile conjoined in point at the top of the chev. all counterchanged.

I see the House of Names offers the Nosworthy image for both names!
