Spooner and deacon's
« on: Sunday 02 July 23 06:28 BST (UK) »
Hello, I have been trying to trace my ancestor for quite a while now and I keep hitting a dead end. I'm new to roots chat and I'm wondering if someone can help me find them.

The details are;
Ellen Spooner who migrated to Australia in 1882. Her marriage certificate states that she was 23 in 1887 so birth date would have been 1863, give or take one. The marriage certificate also states that she was born in Middlesex, London.
Ellen Spooner's parents were William Spooner and Ellen Deacon. Also born in England.
There was a William spooner marrying an Ellen Chapman and they had a daughter; Ellen Spooner. But that doesn't match as marriage certificate states that Ellen's mother's maiden name was Deacon.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

No Ellen SPOONERs on GRO in that timezone with mmn of DEACON.

The one in 1862 mmn is given as ASH.

Cannot see a marriage between a William Spooner and an Ellen Deacon

What other documents do you have to make sure it is the correct information?

ADDED
Does your Ellen Spooner have siblings that you know of and what was her fathers occupation?

The 1862 Ellen Spooner's parents were:

Jacob Spooner and  Fanny Ash, married 1861 in Brentford

Can't see any Spooner births, with a mother's maiden name of Deacon? 1861 +/- 2 years

There are a number of trees on Ancestry that have Ellen Spooner in them, including her marriage to John JONES in Queensland in 1887. Names her parents as William SPOONER and Ellen DEACON, William being an undertaker.

Some census records in the trees as well, but some of them appear to be for the wrong SPOONER family.

Ellen possibly an out of work servant in 1881, aged 17.

First, a very warm welcome to Rootschat.

FindMyPast has the baptism (transcript only) of -

Ellen Spooner, bap 31 Oct 1867, place Norwood Green, Middlesex, parents William and Ellen Spooner, father's occupation labourer.

Occupation does not "fit" marriage cert. details just posted by Eyesee.

I think the 1867 baptism applies to Ellen Spooner, mother's maiden name NEWMAN.

Have you reviewed the other Spooners who went to Queensland in the 1870s/1880s  to see if any of them might be family?
