Abraham Woodward Ulverston 8e 538 - GRO online shows no mmn so he was illegitimate

I notice he doesn’t appear on the 1861/71 census as Woodsworth -  only censuses after his marriage in 1874

Did he name a father on his marriage cert?

In both 1861 & 1871 Abraham Woodward is with his mother & stepfather.  From 1881 Abraham Woodward disappears & Abraham Woodsworth appears also born 1853 Ulverston??

There are too many coincidences.  My personal opinion is he was born Abraham Woodward & in 1855 his mother married John Vickers.

Why he became Woodsworth when he married is anybody’s guess.  It’s not a common surname - the 1851 only has 8 male entries nationally for that surname

An outside chance is that his biological father was Woodsworth but if he wanted to appear “respectable” when he married he may have invented a fathers name
