Gabriel Galt CRAMB (1890-1929)
« on: Monday 03 July 23 00:36 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am seeking any information available about Gabriel Galt Cramb (b 7 Aug 1890 Glasgow) who was in the Army, and died in London on 28 Mar 1929. Was he a Chelsea Pensioner? Is there an obituary for him, and where was he buried?

Gabriel's mother, Agnes (Galt) Cramb (b 1866 Glasgow) also lived, and died, in London on 25 Mar 1929 in Bermondsey, Surrey - three days before her son! Burial took place at Nunhead Cemetery, Linden Grove, London. Gabriel's father, William Cramb (b 1864 Edinburgh, Scotland) had emigrated earlier to the USA to join another son.

I am hoping that someone might be able to help me. Thank you. Regards.

If you read all the way through his Army Record

Listed under next of kin:  (possibly when he signed up in 1907)

His father William Cramb  was of Durban S.A. (South Africa)
His mother Agnes Cramb was of 22 Jameson Street Govan Hill Glasgow
He had a brother William

He only served 2 years 359 days and was given 14 days detention in 1909 for sleeping on his post.
So I expect he was not allowed to reup.

Discharged 2 December 1910 to "Home"

Interesting 1929 Agnes is listed as a widow when she died

1930 census her husband William age 66 is alive and well lists himself as widowed living with son William and his wife Mary in Niagara Falls New York.

William the father aged 47 was in Quebec 22 August 1910 he crossed into USA 4 April 1911 at Buffalo New York in search of work going to a friend Andrew Fonner in Niagara Falls.

4 May 1915 he gives permission for his son William aged 19 to marry Mary Lowman aged 17 in Niagara Falls N.Y.

Likewise, I can see no death registered in 1929 that looks as if it could be him .

There is a marriage in Scotland for a George Galt Cramb. Might this be the same man as the provider of the inventory for Agnes

I think Printer has mistakenly posted the date of Agnes's death as that of Gabriel - see reply 3

Gabriel/George was alive on 29.12.1929 as per the probate entry 1930

Probably obtained the info from an incorrect tree on Ancestry??

George Galt Cramb marriage in 1920 on SP
