IMHO, spelling is important for unambiguous communication :D
Even in a text message!

I agree but I don't think spelling is so important as when I was young, I remember when I was about 10  getting  10 out of 10 for spelling, the only one in the  class who could spell " enough"

LM

I took my two children out of one primary school when my seven year old son's teacher wrote;
"It wood be better if ----" in his exercise book, instead of
"It would be better if ----" .

If we deliberately allow ourselves to get slipshod then we could eventually make the sort of mistake one hospital patient endured when the doctor read his notes and removed the big toe on his right foot, instead of examining and operating on the big toe on his left foot which had a painful ingrowing toe nail.   The latter was told tome by a hospital Estates Manager, whose uncle had the toe removed.

Viktoria.

Hard luck Viktoria - I have the same problem when I accidentally touch the space bar.

One day I'll discover how to retrieve my text.

Time for a rant about English!

I recently read a book, where throughout the author referred to "chest-of-draws"!
Just had a Facebook notification where someone made the same mistake.

Does nobody learn English any more?
It's a Chest-of-drawERS!!!
Agree. Concise Oxford dictionary...a box-like storage compartment without a lid, sliding in and out of a frame/table i.e chest of drawers;
Similar in Nuttall's Standard Dictionary 1926.
Nurse, Musther, Smith, Julnes, Rogers, Parsons,Grieves(Greaves,Greeves),Wood,Cray,Scrine,Shellard,Greenstock,

I often see people on Ebay or local second hand websites selling “Chester drawers” or “Chester draws”
Robbins - Wolverhampton.
Spooner - Monmouthshire & Wolverhampton.
Warner & Loundes - Dudley/West Bromwich.
Dod(g)son - Heysham/Liverpool/Wolverhampton

Am not sure “chest of draws” is so far fetched - after all, the word “draw” is the original verb form, and “drawer” the noun form.  In any case, I have never heard of chest of draws, and semantically, is probably incorrect.  I find people on this side of the Atlantic often shorten “error” to “err”; particularly baseball announcers, e.g, “he made three errs during the game”.

Miserable day here, supposed to be luncheoning  with   my granddaughter,  had planned to wear a dress, not worn a dress for a very long time  but thought I would make the effort as it was a bit of a celebration on her return, anyway whatever the weather it won't take away tbe joy of lunch with my family.

Talking about spelling, isn't quite the same but on an open day my daughter had a picture on the wall but it had been corrected at sometime by the teacher, we had  been to Mersea in Essex, the teacher thought we had been to the Mersea in Liverpool, we just had to tell the teacher and explain it to our daughter

Have a nice day folks
