While working through the newspaper references the name Jones was closely associated with Whitefort. I'd read the article mentioned here -

https://tipperarystudies.ie/1810-landlord-repels-bumbling-rebels/

1794 newspaper advert - "Pursuant to the will of the late Elias Bowler, Esq, 120 A of the lands of Whitefort, otherwise Derrynastin,** subject to the lease of 3 lives ... at the yearly rent of £66 6s ..."

** the item reads "Derrynastin" but I think it should read "Derrynaslin, which is north west of Holy Cross/Nenagh

Elias Bowler was an army man, Lieutenant and Quartermaster in the 15th regiment, died late 1793

Hanes, the newspaper reports you have posted are very helpful thankyou  ;D  The 1810
report on John Jones is particularly interesting.

Thanks also for the Valuation office books, I note the presence of a Henry Jones as an occupier
of land with Robert Jones Esq. as lessor.  The continued use of 3 names throughout the generations
makes it extremely difficult without supporting BDM records.

Regards,
Jen.
