Traynor/Jordan marriage - Maine
« on: Thursday 06 July 23 12:17 BST (UK) »
I have found on Family Search the record of the following marriage:

John Traynor (1857-1884) to Cora A Jordan (1858-1934) in Georgetown, Sagadahoc, Maine, 27th Sept 1882.

Is it possible to view a copy of the actual marriage certificate anywhere as I am hoping it contains information on the groom’s father & also confirmation of the groom’s place of birth (possibly Bristol, England) & profession.

Thanks in advance for either a look-up or advice on how to find it myself.

Drews - Gdansk (Danzig), Poland

A tree on Ancestry shows him as born 25.12.1857 England Died Sept 1884 aged 26

You could try contacting the tree owner to ask where they got his exact birthdate from as the tree shows parents unknown

On this page - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F4FZ-R49, if you click on Check Image Availability, it says you need to browse through the film to find it.  I don't think it's going to have much detail about the people involved.

Thank you both. Good point Carole - I have seen this tree but didn’t think to do that.  Shelly - I guess I’m so used to being able to order a copy of a marriage certificate in the UK  for additional details, I was hoping it would work the same in the USA 😢. Thanks again for your input.

How much information you get from vital records in the US will vary by location and time frame.  Maine started statewide registration of marriages in 1892, and the records are more detailed then.
