Doovale - Co. Donegal
« on: Friday 07 July 23 00:38 BST (UK) »
Hello Troops, i need your assistance. I have had a recent enquiry about a place called Doovale in Co. Donegal. Dr. Google couldn't crack it and the closed that i could come up with was Doe Castle near Dunfanaghy. Any clues?

Cheers
Jack Gee

Jack,
Can you clarify in what context this was asked? Might there be a mistake in reading the place name?

- Could it be Moville?
- Doonwell/Doon Well is near Kilmacrennan.
- Could it be Doochary?
- Doochill South and Doochill North are townlands in Killybegs

Hi troops, if the picture holds and is not too big. It looks like me to be Doovala and Glenolly/Glenotty. Any advance on those previously stated? The second could be Gleneely near Moville. In case the picture does not take. This is for the note on the manifest/passenger list of the 'Neptune' to Sydney in 1852. Samuel King aged 22, Doovala, co Donegal, [parents] Samuel & Sarah both living in the Co. Donegal. Mary King aged 20, Glenotty, co. Donegal, [parents] Alexander & Mary both living in Glenolly in Co. Donegal.

Cheers
Jack

Jack,

It's Samuel and ANN King arriving in 1852 on the Neptune. Here's a larger image to view and enlarge.

Might it be (and spoken in a broad Donegal accent) Dooballagh townland.

Just a maybe, but there is a baptismal record for a Samuel King who was baptised in the Presbyterian Church, Convoy, in 1827, his father's name was also Samuel and the address was Dooballagh.

Not too far to the west is Glenoughty:
