S. D. P. Co. Jamestown (N. Y.) U.S.A
« on: Friday 07 July 23 12:27 BST (UK) »
Looking for any information on the company that produced photographic postcards circa 1920 with the name printed on the reverse: "S. D. P. Co. Jamestown (N. Y.) U.S.A."

I found a collection of examples of these cards on the website for the National Library of Chile, but I'm keen to find any info relating to their operations more widely.

Thanks

I'm afraid not.
You could try contacting one of the photographic museums in NY.
My understanding of the process is that there was a resurgence in
Ferrotype photography in the 1900's but whereas the original medium
being used was a thin sheet of iron by this time modern cameras were
able to produce these on specially produced cards this gives an instantaneous
photograph as the originals did 30 years earlier.
The process was superseded by the Polaroid post WW2.

I looked up photographic processes USA early 1900's
not expecting much but they were amongst a list
of camera & suppliers companies.
I also looked up Straco

There are hundreds of articles mentioning that company in the Jamestown Post Journal

Go to https://www.fultonhistory.com/fulton.html
Enter - Straight Dry Plate - in the search field and use the default boolean search method. You should get hundreds of results

Thank you. The reason I'm researching this is I have a photographic postcard with the details of the Straight Dry Plate company on the back. I was hoping that info about the company might provide clues to when and where the photo was taken, but it seems they were a photographic supplies company so photographers anywhere could have been purchasing materials from them.

I'm not sure where to look next for help with my photographic postcard - any ideas?
