John McLeod and Christina Munro of Kincardine, Ross-shire
« on: Saturday 08 July 23 03:09 BST (UK) »
I am interested to find out more about this couple but am having trouble.  Can anyone help?

Alexander McLeod their son was born in either 1839 or 1840.  He married Margaret Ross in 1866.  I downloaded the marriage cert.  to determine McLeod parents.  Because I have more than a few candidates for John McLeod, tenant farmer, and I need his age and location of birth.  On the marriage cert. Alexander age 27 and Margaret age 28 both of Amat Croick, Parish of Kincardine, County of Ross.  Father of Alexander is deceased and his mother Christina maiden name is Munro is alive in 1866.  The Ross family, of theirs, in Scotland seems to have been researched and isn't a problem.  The McLeod family does not appear to have been researched.

John McLeod born in 1813 in Amat, Ross-shire is not the parent as he lived to 1891 and his wife's name was Janet.

Alexander and Margaret moved to South Australia.

I cannot find Alexander in the 1851 or the 1861 census for Kincardine, Ross-shire.

Hi there  :)

Could also add the names of the Marriage witness? (and if you know anything already about them?) Sometimes there are clues there?

Cheers

"The Ross family..........in Scotland seems to have been researched and isn't a problem"

Are you using information that you have found on an online family tree eg Ancestry?

Are you a direct descendant of the McLEOD-ROSS family, married 1866, Scotland.?

How are you descended?......through which son/daughter?

Thank you Neale, Wivenhoe, and Ambly.

My interest is in the McLeods of Easter Ross and I was trying to disambiguate multiple McLeod families complicated by many McLeod-McLeod marriages.  This helps.

My own family is connected but as I am sure you know the records are not all present or are not present in a form readily understandable.

I was referring the this specific Ross family only as I have many McLeod-Ross connections that have not been well researched.

Gustavus Ross and William McLeod were the witnesses.

……. but as I am sure you know the records are not all present or are not present in a form readily understandable.

The records are available on Scotlands People and, with a small amount of time and effort, are readily understandable.
