Elizabeth 'who?' b1815 Walmer married Henry Pomeroy/Pomery
« on: Wednesday 12 July 23 10:38 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have Elizabeth as the wife of Henry Pomeroy/ Pomery.

They have two children born in Ireland: Richard c1849 Carlingford, Louth and Henry c1847 Ireland. I have this information from censuses.

Elizabeth consistently gives her birthplace as Walmer c1815.

Henry senior, her husband, 1811 Mousehole, Cornwall.

On later censuses, I see a daughter Amelia c1852 Porthleven, Cornwall and Mary Ann c1854 Mousehole, Cornwall. I couldn't find their births on gro where I was hoping to find Elizabeth's maiden name.

The family are living in Porthleven 1851 and Megavissey 1861.

Henry senior is a coastguard and later a fisherman.

I'm trying to find Elizabeth's maiden name and birth and a marriage for her. I saw one at worth 1834. Their ages and names fit but I don't know if it's just coincidence.

Any help appreciated.

There is a baptism at Walmer.     5 Jan 1817. Parents Richard & Susannah which would fit with the names of two of those children. IF that surname was correct.

That 1834 marriage looks promising.
One of the witnesses is named Amelia

There must be many more children though if that is the case.  (Or miscarriages)

Ooh thank you. Although it could be coincidence, as you say - a lot of the names fit.
Thank you again.

Yes I was thinking that about the children. Maybe they went straight to Ireland. I'll have to see what I can find there, although it's trickier.

Have you tried browsing the parish registers at https://registers.nli.ie/ for Carlingford for Richard's baptism ca 1849? This will state mother's maiden name. They are Catholic registers though.

ADDED: On 1911 census Richard gives his name as Richard Webb Pomeroy.
Seeking: RC baptism Philip Murray Feb ish 1814 ? nr Chatham Kent.
