How long are death records private?

I just realized the reason I can’t find certain records is because they may still be private. Does anybody know if there is a universal timeframe for that? For some reason I’m thinking 75 years, but I don’t know if that’s accurate. Thanks!

The time period varies from state to state and it also depends on whether you are close relative of the deceased individual or have some other demonstrable interest.
