Rose Elizabeth Damant
« on: Thursday 13 July 23 13:04 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for some help with what happened to this lady after 1891

Rose Elizabeth Damant B. 27 Mar 1862, Grundisburgh, Suffolk

Parents:  Abraham Damant & Ann Gurling

Married a George Ramsey, Nov 24th 1883, Witnesham, Suffolk

We have found 1 daughter  Emma Eliza born in 1885, Witnesham, Suffolk

The family are then on the 1891 Census living in St Pancras, London

I can them find another possible marriage for George to a Florence Maber in December 1899, he is listed as a bachelor

I cannot find what has happened to Rose.  We have a photo of her in a group with a young relative (maybe aged 3 or 4) who was born in 1918, but I cannot find a death record for her, or find her on the 1901/11, census.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thankyou

Daughter Emma is with her grandparents William & Sarah Ramsey in 1901. By 1911 she is married to a Robert Webb. (married jq 1907)

Thankyou both so much.  That really looks like a good match

I have a couple of questions from this information -

Was divorce an option at this time?  Or did Roses first husband remarry, and lied that he was a bachelor?

As I can't find a marriage for Rose and Arthur, I guess i can assume they were living together, and lied on the census?  Would this have happened a lot then?

thankyou once again

George & Florence appear together in 1921 census in St George Hanover Sq

Their deaths

RAMSEY, GEORGE       67
GRO Reference: 1929  M Quarter in ST. GEORGE HANOVER SQUARE  Volume 01A  Page 961

RAMSEY, FLORENCE  MARY     66
GRO Reference: 1936  S Quarter in WANDSWORTH  Volume 01D  Page 440

I suspect that they went their own ways with a couple of untruths along the way.
