I would like to find more/when was Richard Roberts move from UK to US.  I wonder if Ellis Island records could be helpful?

He appears to have immigrated been in 1841.

Richard's son George & Thomas are with him in the 1850 census.
Thomas had a son, George W., born 1860 in Illinois. After Thomas died in 1872 & his wife in 1878, his brother George appears to have taken in all of Thomas's children. All the children in the 1800 census with George are listed as his nephews & nieces.

In the 1900 census Richard's son George (b.1831 England) is living with his nephew George W.(son of his brother Thomas). In that census, George states he immigrated to the US in 1841. George would have only been 10 years old, so I assume he immigrated with his father, Richard Roberts.

Ellis Island would not be any help. Their immigration was way before Ellis Island. Passenger ship records for that time period or anything prior to 1850 are scarce.
