I thought it may be a WH on a ship - like the prison boats - but highly unlikely😂😂

Hi,

The only place I can see that uses vessels as the parish for Ditching Poor House is at Ancestry, I think they have mistranscribed it as they have also called it the Port House instead of the Poor House. The reference for the Poor House is RG9/584 but some of the other entries under vessels are RG/589 and seem to be in Newhaven Harbour. I found this page which might help,

https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~ssx1861/genealogy/589newhaven.html#Vessels

Using FreeCen it shows that the references are quite different,

https://www.freecen.org.uk/search_records/59a3a711f4040be6b1559d15/edward-elphick-1861-sussex-ditchling-1791-?locale=en

https://www.freecen.org.uk/search_records/59a3a88cf4040be6b1572ba0/henry-ince-1861-sussex-newhaven-1844-?locale=en

I have no idea what Ancestry have done ??? but it has been really confusing trying to sort it out, I hope my ideas make sense to everyone :)

Regards,

Daisy
