Thomas Wise 1921
« on: Monday 17 July 23 17:15 BST (UK) »
THOMAS WISE was one of a number of British soldiers killed in Cork City on the night of 28 Feb 1921. A native of Cork, he was aged 30 and was serving with the Royal Army Service Corps.
Does anyone out there know where THOMAS WISE is buried?

The Irish 1901 shows his mother was a widow.  Could it be possible he is buried with his father?

Hi CaroleW.  Thomas' father (also Thomas) died on 27 Jan 1893,  aged 42. As you say, his widowed mother Annie, widowed, appears in the 1902 Census with son Thomas (12) and daughter Annie (20).
Thomas' Pension Cards show his next-of-kin as sister Annie (O'Rourke); she had married William O'Rourke on 30 Aug 1903. I haven't located Thomas or his mother in the 1911 Census.

That should of course be the 1901Census (not 1902).

That should of course be the 1901Census (not 1902).

You can modify your text response within 24 hours. Just use the 'strike-through' button and replace it with 1901.

Thus 1902 1901

A newspaper report of the time says that Thomas was buried in England.

Edited to add:

The (Belfast) Northern Whig, 3 March 1921

THE CORK MURDERS.
Impressive Funeral Service.

At Victoria Barracks, Cork, yesterday a funeral service was held for the six victims who were murdered on Monday night in the city.  Their names were were Private T. Wise, R.A.S.C.;
[followed by the other five names].

The latter will be buried in the military cemetery, Cork, today, but the other five will be buried in England, whence the remains are being conveyed by boat. ... ... The five coffins were then placed on Crossley tenders and conveyed to the boat sailing last night for Fishguard.

Thank you to everybody who replied. Burial in England puts a whole new complexion on my search.
