Arthur Jackson born 1909 - London / Kent
« on: Monday 17 July 23 20:04 BST (UK) »
Hi all  :)

I'm researching my family tree and found information on here really helpful. This is a long shot but I am trying to research my grandads grandad. What I know so far is:

My grandads dad was Arthur Jackson born 9 Jun 1909 london and died Dec 1952 Uckfield, Sussex.
His mum was Mary Ann Jackson 6 August 1890 - October 24. At the age of 2 Arthur is showing as being in Kensington workhouse. Anecdotally I am told that Arthur's dad was called Arthur too.

Arthur married Caroline Dighton in 1933 and they moved or continued to stay in Belvedere Marshes.

I've ordered two birth certificates for Arthur Jackson (1909) in the hope that one of them I can confirm is him and that that might give me another direction to look in.

Not sure if anyone else has any information or know another place I can try to find some information.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Welcome to Rootschat

Have you looked for him on the 1921 census?  The 1921 is only available on FindMyPast

Did he name a father on his 1933 marriage cert?

Hey! Thanks for replying.

On the marriage certificate he had Arthur listed as his dad but no other details to narrow him down.

I have no idea on Arthur seniors birth date or location other than likely Erith area so not sure how to search it on the census.

I may just need to bite the bullet and pay the money to access the census and hope I get lucky and can find him.

Have you tried this birth registration

Arthur Jackson June quarter 1909 Kensington  vol. 01A page 139 no mother's maiden name so illegitimate.

1911 census he is in the workhouse residence listed as Kensington age 2

It's possible he made up the name of his father on the marriage certificate.

Hey

I'm waiting for that birth certificate to come through, from what you've said I think it's supports my fear that the Arthur on the marriage certificate is made up and we don't know who he really was. A real shame but at least I tried.
