Looking for Minnie
« on: Tuesday 18 July 23 10:58 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Minnie Cook has been a long standing brick wall for me, therefore, she was the first digital birth record I downloaded from the GRO last week, well I had to try the new process out  ;D

Lovely as the record is, I'm no further forward looking for Minnie.

Some background info.
Minnie Cook born 9 Aug 1889 in Axbridge
Parents Thomas William Cook and Francis nee Peckham
sister Emily Francis Cook 1886-1937 (my great grandmother)

1891 -  RG12/1963 Bristol St James ED 3 folio 39 page 2
5 Barton St St James Bristol

1901 - RG13/2405 Ed 18 folio14 page 19  Barton Regis, Westbury on Trym
3 Wellington Cres, Horfield, Gloucestershire

her father dies in 1905 and her mother marries Richard Pugh in  Maesteg Glam  Jun qtr 1910
sister Emily married Frederick Charles Howell in 1903 Barton Regis Registry Office

Minnie is not with either of them in 1911.

I "think" this is her in 1911 at 11 Henleaze Ave Westbury on Trym Bristol
Minnie Cook 23 general domestic servant born Weston Super Mare?
(living with the SERFICANT family
RG14/15095 RD 319 SD 9 ED 3

I should note that her sister Emily and her family were living in Westbury on Trym until abt 1908

I haven't been able to pinpoint a marriage or find her in 1921 or 1939.
I have checked several Minnies with the same birth date in 1939 but tracing back they don't appear to be her.

My dad recalled the name Min being mentioned but knew absolutely nothing about her, he was only 11/12 when Minnie's sister Emily passed away.

Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you for reading...
Jenny

Possible?

Have you discounted this one in 1921 free index.

Minnie Cook b1890, Weston, Somerset, England, in Farnham Rural, Surrey. Number of people in household.

A Minnie Cook aged 47 occ nurse sailed for Montreal Canada on 1.5.1936.  No other details on the passenger list but does not appear to be married

I think the same person arrived 19.7.1911 from Montreal occ nurse

Thank you both for your help

Cas
I will take a look at the 1921 Minnie in Farnham and see where it leads me.

CaroleW,
I did see the one sailing to Montreal in 1936 but didn’t notice the 1911 sailing. I shall investigate further.

Many thanks to you both
Jenny

Someone on Ancestry trees has her dying in 1936 on the Gower peninsular. The tree owner isn’t a close relative at all and doubtful they have anything to confirm this is the right death.  I don’t know if this is correct either but I have just ordered her probate so that I can either confirm or dismiss it.

Gower is possible as she had a niece who eventually went to live there but much later than 1936.

Gower was covered by 2 registration districts from 1935 - Swansea & West Glamorgan.  No death in either for a Minnie Cook

No probate entry either
