Sorry, modified my last post with a map and photo.  :D

(Know the area quite well myself, lived in Glebe for many years.)

We were even a bit further down the point, opposite the Max Factor building. Great location, great times. Didn't own a car, walked everywhere, or caught the 431 bus.  :D

432 to Rozelle or 433 to Balmain were just as useful. There was a 434 to Balmain too, but I think it went a different way. Talking about 1964- 1966.

I was there a bit later - 1980s.  :D

Elizabeth BURGESS inheriting all the goods etc of the Iron Foundry of the late John BURGESS of O'Connell Town May 1855  (O'Connell Town is an old name for Newtown)

I meant to add earlier that Elizabeth didn't run the Foundry for long and sold the business to Robert BUBB (of the Victoria Foundry, Sussex St) in July 1855.

Also meant to add that from John BURGESS death notice, he was born c1820.

"On Sunday, the 20th instant, at his residence, O'Connell Town, John Burgess, ironfounder, in the 35th year of his age."

I jumped the gun and took all the correspondence round to my friend rather than wait for next Wednesday's meeting. He was impressed !!!

He took a photo of the Winch and sent it to my email. Here I admit to uselessness.  I would like to send you the image but currently am unable. I may have to import children/grandchildren's  help.
The winch looks like it could retrieve the Titanic from the Atlantic. Let alone oysters or crabs.

Only trouble, to me, is that he has preserved it in Indian Curry coloured paint. Sensible but......!!

I'd love to see a photo of the winch (whatever colour). Hope the grandchildren can help!

Not sure if the information here will help, although it's more for posting an image to be restored.
