Whittaker, Proprietor of Houses
« on: Wednesday 19 July 23 23:02 BST (UK) »
Hi, one of my ancestors, William Whittaker b.1792 in Manchester appears in the 1841 Census as a 'Proprietor of Houses'. I have nothing other than this about William other than he was married to Margaret and in the census lives at 'Side of Moor' in Oldham.

I have information about their children but wondered if there was more to find online about him and about what houses he may have owned?

Any help would be great. Thanks, Luke

He's actually a proprietor of houses in the 1851 census:

In the 1841 census, he is an iron moulder:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQGN-7XZ (occupation not listed here, but is iron moulder on image)

In 1861 census, he is 'gentleman' and in 1871, he is 'retired moulder (iron)', so his occupation changes a fair bit between censuses.

If you enter the following, all the census returns should pop up:

Name: William Whittaker
Birth: 1792, Manchester, Lancashire
Lived in: Oldham, Lancashire
Spouse: Margaret

Seems he lived on Terrace Street between at least 1861 and 1871.

Marriage between a William Whittaker, iron founder, and Margaret Beans in Bolton Le Moors in 1811:

If you do not live in the UK, then just change the '.uk' part to your country's domain name.

A wonderful find, thank you again Queenie. I am in the UK in, not so sunny, Lancashire.
