Shayshutt

Hi all I had a great response from the Essex board regarding people and places in Orsett Essex as I was taking a group from my U3A to visit the church and places of interest. It all went great and was rounded off with a lovely pub lunch.

During the lunch a new member was saying she could not find anything about her Shayshutt family. A name like that is catnip to me and after many years away and now limited resources I have her grandfather Uriah Shayshutt born 1882 Plaistow married Jean Sarah Slowley Orsett 1907 died Thurrock 1962.

I have his parents as John Shayshutt born 1844 France and Elizabeth nee Hayward born 1965 Southampton.

I believe John to be the son of Benjamin Shayshutt and would like to know Benjamins occupation to perhaps give a clue why John was born in France, I’m guessing military but any help would be appreciated.

John - transcribed as Hayslett but corrected - age 7 born France

mother Sarah

living Wolverhampton Staffs

Sarah is a widow on the next census

I have his parents as John Shayshutt born 1844 France and Elizabeth nee Hayward born 1965 Southampton.

Their marriage certificate should have his fathers name and occupation.

Note other children have mothers maiden name Hayward - for Sarah?

They are Mary Shayshutt 1850 Wolverhampton

Emma 1854 Wolverhampton

Edith 1858 South Stoneham Hampshire

So John born in France, did he have a different mother?  Need to confirm when Sarah married Benjamin.

In 1851 Benjamin's parents are on census with the family - Richard 59 bricklayer & Ann 55.

There is also a daughter Louisa born France who is 5.  In 1861 birthplace France Rouen but later census have Paris.

Reporting a negative result: there are zero Shayshutt records at Fold3 prior to the 20th century.
