John Joseph Taylor April 1871
« on: Thursday 20 July 23 17:18 BST (UK) »
Afternoon

I'm now researching my dad's side of the family and in particular the half-siblings of my great great grandad.

At the moment I'm looking at John Joseph Taylor and have found a birth registration of April 1871, born Whaplode. There is another JJ Taylor born Whaplode but he seems to have a birth date of later.

I have found John in 1881 and 1891 still living with his parents, firstly in Whaplode and later moving to Sutton St Mary (Sutton Bridge as is now).

On Family Search Ive found a Census return for a John Taylor in Elstead, Surrey, with a birth year of 1872 (with a birth date of April its quite possible it could be him). However I cannot find the particular census returns on Ancestry to see what information is on here to see whether this could possibly be him.

Is anyone able to access this return to see what the occupation of John is and whether he is married and who too, etc?

Thank you

Thank you - place of birth and age fit so that could possibly be him. Had hoped he'd married because at least that might have given me something else.

John and Taylor are far too common so its a bit of a minefield.

Just trying to see if I can find him in 1911. I have found a John Taylor from Whaplode in Portsmouth but he is 35 so not sure as that age is 4 years out. So I'm not sure.

Yes thats the family in 1891.

There's 8 children altogether...I think Joseph has 7 children with 1 sister and 1 with the other sister  (who are also his step sisters as his father marries their mother after the death of his first wife). Joseph then goes onto marry my great great grandma and has a further 4 children.

Marriage Sep qtr 1879
Carr    Ellen
TAYLOR    Joseph
Holbeach    7a   559

These birth registrations don't match with the Clark Taylor / Carr children

Okay thank you. Well if his age is correct them from Census returns we know he's born 1871/1872 or there abouts. Trouble with there being a few of them its hard to pinpoint, without the actual certificates which one is his. Downside of a surname like Taylor  ???

As you apparently know who his mother is then you should be able to locate the correct birth registration on the GRO index

ADDED
I wonder if the maiden name of Mary Ann is wrongly transcribed on this certificate.TAYLOR, JOHN  JOSEPH     mmn CLARK
GRO Reference: 1871  June Quarter in HOLBEACH  Volume 07A  Page 380

You can purchase a digital image of it for £2.50 on the GRO website

Its possible. I have a birth month of April 1871 although not entirely sure where I got that information from.
