SS Atlantic 1945
« on: Friday 21 July 23 19:37 BST (UK) »
In my fathers Royal Navy service records payment and victualling section it states he served on SS Atlantic between 23 January 1945 -21 June 1945.  (From 22 June 1945 he was D.E.M.S New York).  Can anyone direct me to where I can find information and movement cards of SS Atlantic between the dates Dad served on her.  Research comes up with the Atlantic that sank in 1870.
Thank you

There are two or three contenders for the name,  ATLANTIC.
One British, one Panamanian and one Norwegian.

I think most probably, he was on the Norwegian tanker ATLANTIC.
Do you wish to give a name and dob, I can check some records?

Thank you so much for your offer of help.
My father was Raymond Dodd DOB 26.12.1916 . His service number is JX224522.

His P&V record states he was DEMS Liverpool 12.01.1945-22.01.1945
                                           SS Atlantic        22.01.1945-21.06.1945
                                           DEMS New York 21.06.1945-05.08.1945

Hi Sandra,

Given that information I can confirm that he did indeed join the Norwegian tanker ATLANTIC in January 1945 at Liverpool.

The ship is this one:http://www.warsailors.com/singleships/atlantic.html
