Sedbergh marriages 1824 and 1836
« on: Saturday 22 July 23 12:20 BST (UK) »
Hi - I am looking for any information on the following 2 marriages which took place in Sedbergh (with the same groom).

1.  Samuel Leighton to Elizabeth Atkinson in 1824
2.  Samuel Leighton to Isabella Ellis in 1836

I don't suppose there will be much info attached to these entries, but anything (inc. witnesses, addresses etc) may prove useful!

Also, any information on the birth of Elizabeth Atkinson in/around 1802 in Sedbergh.

Many thanks in anticipation.

I presume this is the family in Sedburgh, Yorkshire in 1841?
Samuel Leighton 35 Woollen Spinner Not born in County
Isabella Leighton 40
John Leighton 15
Eleanor Leighton 14
Thomas Leighton 11
William Leighton 9
Henry Leighton 4
Miles Leighton 2

Do you have his 1857 M/C to Ellen Batty to confirm his Fathers name/occp?

Trish :)

Thanks Trish - yes this is the family. I do have his marriage certificate for 1857 marriage, but no info on father, left blank. I can only assume he did not know who his father was. So I was hoping there may be something unearthed as a result of the earlier 2 marriages.

Perhaps the naming pattern of the children of Samuel and Eleanor would give a clue.  First son John 1825 and daughter Eleanor 1827  ??

First son – named after the father's father. First daughter – named after the mother's mother. Second son – named after the mother's father. Second daughter – named after the father's mother....
