Elizabeth Cathcart Craig and John Wilson
« on: Saturday 22 July 23 15:12 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am looking to try and find out what happened to Elizabeth Cathcart Craig and John Wilson after their marriage.

John Wilson was born in Hamilton on the 21st January 1873, son of David Wilson (a master baker), and his wife, Isabella McAuslin.
He married firstly, in Hamilton, on the 8th July 1898 to Euphemia Gray and had a son, David, born in 1899. Sadly, Euphemia died on the 12th October 1899, probably as a result of the birth.

John remarried in Hamilton on the 31st December 1908 to Elizabeth Cathcart Craig.

Elizabeth had been born in Hamilton on the 10th June 1880, daughter of David Craig (colliery engineman), and Isabella Ross.

Although I know a great deal about the couple prior to their marriage, I do not know what became of them afterwards.

Can anybody trace them??

Many Thanks

Sue

Are they on the Scottish 1911 census?

AAh...where did the death take place?

Sadly, the Scottish 1911 census is only available via Scotlands People. I've tried looking for them individually in 1911 and they seem to be still in Hamilton, as does John's son, David Wilson, who had been born in 1899.
But can't be 100% sure that it is them.

I edited out that possible death - it was Dalziel but there were too many Elizabeth Craig births around 1879-1881 so it could have been a wild goose chase.  They are not in England in 1911

Anybody who looks them up in 1911 would have to use their own credits or pay to view - unfortunately SP has no subscription :(

Thanks anyway for taking a look in England.
I suspect that is where they ended up eventually

Just been looking at the outward passenger lists from Scotland but there are too many John Wilsons b 1873/4 travelling from Scotland without family.  Mainly to Canada.

You could check the Canadian 1911 just in case??

Have you discounted this possible death, Sue?

ELIZABETH WILSON or CRAIG
Age 84
1965
Ref 573 / 1 / 386
Paisley

With names like Wilson and Craig, hard to say more really without checking it to include or discount it really.
