Did Gertrude Giles & Albert William Giles die in IOM?
« on: Monday 24 July 23 00:41 BST (UK) »
Gertrude Giles nee Quine was born in Onchan on 29.9.1901.  Parents James John Quine & Sarah nee Hamilton

In 1935 Gertrude had an illegitimate daughter in Manchester who was adopted at 6mths old & it is that daughter I am trying to help  find her mother's ancestry.  The daughters christian names were changed after the adoption.

In 1938 Gertrude married Albert William Giles in Manchester and they are both on the 1939 register in Manchester although Gertrude's birthdate is shown as 29.9.1902 and Albert's as 26.3.1902.

I cannot find deaths for either of them after 1939 & wondered if they perhaps went to live in the IOM.  I even checked cwgc.org in case they died in WW2

Albert is not the 1972 death in Bedfordshire as that Albert can also be found in 1939 in Bedfordshire with the same birthdate.

Gertrude is not the 1989 death in Manchester as that Gertrude has a different birthdate & can be found on the 1939 register

I can't find any children born to them nor can I find any outgoing passenger records indicating they emigrated.

I have looked on Manx BMD but it came up with no results.

I have all information up to 1939 but just need to find Gertrude's death if possible.

Are you sure about this death, could the 1939 register be wrong?

There's a death notice in the Manchester Evening News (19 May 1989, p.28) relating to this Gertrude. (It looks like it was the funeral on 23 May, not the death.)

It says she was aged 88, and a sister, aunt, great aunt and cousin. It gives the names of her parents (surname Giles), so it looks as though she was probably a spinster, and not the one we're looking for.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

ManxBMD has a 2013 death for a William Giles?
It's the only death that comes close.

Only 10 deaths for Giles surname since 1889.

From my post

Quote

Re Albert Giles - the strange thing is I cannot find a birth reg for an Albert William Giles matching his birthdate.  The nearest is a birth in Bromsgrove in 1901 which I am currently looking at

It was only a hunch that they may have gone to live in the IOM during or after the war but looks like it was the wrong one so back to the drawing board ;D ;D
