Missing Birth Registration 1840
« on: Monday 24 July 23 10:21 BST (UK) »
My gt-gt-grandfather James Greenhill was one of seven children born after 1837 and all of the other births were registered in the Billericay, Essex district. The first two (twins) were born in 1838 and the one after James in 1842. One in 1846 was registered as Male Greenhill (he was later baptised Alfred).

James was baptised in April 1840, but I can't find him in the GRO records (as James or Male Greenhill). I'd be very surprised if he wan't registered though as all the others were. Is it possible that some pages were damaged or destroyed or wrongly transcribed?

What was the mother's maiden name?

Taylor.

I should also mention that his father also apparently sometimes used the alias Howell, although I've only seen that mentioned on a removal order. Also their first six children (pre 1837) were recorded in the baptism registers under a number of weird names including Grinnard, Greenard and Greenwood...

No links to Lancaster at all. Henry and Sarah's families were 100% Essex. The family were removed from Childerditch in 1831, but only as far as South Weald.
