John Reeve, Rolveden, Kent (1791-1871)

I've digressed from my usual mill related research to helping my wife with her family tree, so I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this chap.

All we know is that he was her gggg-grandfather.  He was Kentish, and Married Philly Elphee (aka Elfy) in 1812 in Rolveden, Kent.  Later connections are from (relatively) near-by New Romney area, so he might have been from there.

He clearly had children as John Reeve (his son) married Martha Robson at New Romney in 1835.

Anyway, any info on John Reeve, the elder, would be greatly appreciated!

They were married 3 Dec 1812 (3 Dec is also my wedding anniversary!)

I see from the 1861 census that John REEVE (wid, 70 born Rolvenden) was a shoemaker. There are advertisements for the sale of property in Rolvenden in occupation of John REEVE, cordwainer, in 1788. A possible father?

There is a John Reeve, s/o John & Hannah baptised 29 Apr 1787 at Rolvenden, St Mary the Virgin, noted as of this parish?

Ha!  Some sort of wedding anniversary & birthday twins!  Funny how these things come up.

I seem to remember from going through marriages registers in Ipswich, Suffolk, that details could be pretty random pre-1813 when it seems a more standard format was introduced.  Does this mean that the marriage ref does not include father's & mather's names for bride & groom?

Yes, unfortunately parent's names were not included.

There is a Philadelphia REEVE burial at New Romney 6 May 1825. A John REEVE marries Mary Ann DOWLE 15 May 1828. John and Mary Ann baptise a number of children at New Romney after this date.

There is a marriage of John REEVE and Hannah DRAY 30 Nov 1786 at Rolvenden (transcription on ancestry).
