Ada Gardham - missing on 1901 Census
« on: Tuesday 25 July 23 19:55 BST (UK) »
I have lost Ada on the 1901 Census.

She was born in Liverpool on 4 November 1880 and is not with her father Samuel and step-mother Ellen who are living at 56/58 Scotland Road (Bush Vaults Public House), nor any of her many siblings.

She is alive in 1901 as she subsequently marries Thomas Henry Cooper on 20 July 1904 at St Peter's.  She gives her address as Scotland Road.

Thomas and Ada emigrate to New Zealand sometime between 1908 and 1911, taking their daughter Eleanor (b. 1905) with them but leaving their other daughter Marjorie Gladys (b.1908) behind.  That might be another whole story that needs exploring!

Thanks
Ruth

Wonder if she is the Ada Graham b 1880 Liverpool  working in Cumberland.  The 1901 image is clearly Graham but there is no 1891 entry for that profile & no birth on freebmd.  Gardham could be misunderstood as Graham??

Thanks Carole  :)

I shall have a look...Cumberland is a possible as her older brother John ran a pub up there at the time.  Apart from the similar surname, the other details add up.

Her left behind daughter Marjorie Gladys was also brought up in Cumberland too.

just out of curiosity Samuel and his dad were Blockmakers - then Samuel started to run pubs - do you know how skilful Blockmakers were ?   many went to sea - blockmakers made Hardwood blocks that kept the Rope for Sails in its exact place - all made by hand and many made at sea aboard sailing ships .... very talented men  - if you note at Samuels marriage - it states father John - MARINER - so John was actually at sea making Sail Blocks - by hand .... :)
