Thank you but the death seems to be very recent. He did live in N.S.W. but not sure if he moved away to be nearer family.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

 You helped me immensely when I first got hooked on this genealogy lark a good few years ago now! And I thank you - again.

You might be able to find some details through cemetery/crematorium sites.  They often have good records, even of recent services.  Of course, as you said, he may have moved away.

I think these would be the nearest crematoriums; both about 50k from Byron Bay, in different directions.

Google will help you find cemeteries, and you could also try Funeral Directors - there a few listed.

I don't live near there so others may know other avenues to try.

Thanks for the new ideas. We are moving house in a few days and not sure when I'll get new internet sorted but hopefully will get more details eventually. Unfortunately all the information I got was 'Margaret phoned me to say she heard from (another cousin) Margaret that Billy died."
