Looking for William Purkis's parents

William Purkis married Elizabeth Hooper on 31 Aug 1823 in South Stoneham.
In 1841, William and Elizabeth (both aged 40) and (presumed) children are living in West End, South Stoneham.
Children are William 17, Maria 15, Thomas 13, Henry 10, Fanny 10 months.
Birth reg of Fanny confirms mmn Hooper.

In 1851, Elizabeth is a widow, living in Midland Cottage, South Stoneham, with her are her son William and his wife Caroline (nee Sturt) and their son William Thomas (just recorded as Thomas on census) age 2. Also her son Thomas 23 and daughter Fanny 10.

The most likely death for William snr is in Q3 1846 age 46 reg South Stoneham.
The age seems to match with census quite well (where his age may have been rounded down). Unfortunately, as he died before 1851 census I hve no place of birth apart from Hampshire, but possibly South Stoneham or nearby.
Can anyone find a likely baptism please.

Thanks, that's my problem, several Williams in that part of Hampshire born at the turn of the 19th century and so many marriages around the 1820's which could be the other Williams but not mine. I've had no luck on finding Elizabeth Hoopers baptism in SS either and she appears in 1851 and 1861 stating she was born there. Maybe transcriptions for that period for SS are not on line.

Betty - of course! I only checked for Elizabeth. I had found two later children of William and Fanny in SS and did wonder if they were related as William Purkis had a daughter Fanny. I wonder if the names of the other 3 Purkis children (Henry, Thomas and Maria could give a clue as to William Purkis's parents. Trouble is they are such common names.

You can likely rule out this one;

William Purkis, Eling, 26 Dec 1802, son of James & Sarah.  (Born 5 Dec)

He is in the Channel Islands on Census.
1st Wife was Ann Purchase
2nd Wife Jane Bertram, married 14 May 1853 Jersey (Father JAMES a Farmer)

1861 he is William Purcess born 1803 Eling, Hampshire
