They had been in divorce court for 2 years. Mr. Rawson had paid others to say wretched things about her.
She stated she was the widow of Charles G Lee.

Very enlightening article.

Reply 5 shows an article (2nd Feb 1888)  that gives the son as William Ralph Lee.

Wow, what a story is unfolding.  I don't have access to the US Newspapers so this is brilliant.

1.  https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-los-angeles-times/129066682/ - describes her as "an eccentric and wealthy club woman".  Her will is certainly that of a wealthy woman, but what does "club woman" mean??

2.  She was Mrs Lee when she married Rawson, and by the looks of it returns to that name after the episode with the shooting.

3.  Her son is named in her will as William R Lee, so could be William Ralph.

4.  Report of the shooting, and of Meckie's past makes scary but interesting reading.

Cannot access the other papers quoted, my subsciption doesn't allow.

I had no idea what I was getting into with Meckie, now need some time to absorb it all.
