Tradeston / Bridgeton 1922, 1925
« on: Saturday 29 July 23 12:54 BST (UK) »
Slightly complicated request. I can’t see the wood from the trees and could do with a fresh pair of eyes.

Confirmed ancestor is Mary Miller, nee Keown. I have her in the 1921 census, the birth of her daughter 1921 and the 1922 electoral roll, all at the same address 11 Anderson St.

She died in 1930, still at 11 Anderson St.

Basically I am trying to prove that the Mrs Mary K Miller in the 1925 electoral roll in Bridgeton is not the same Mary Miller. I think trying to prove a negative is what is tying me in knots.

I have not been able find any more details of John & Mary Miller in 163 Greenhead St Bridgeton in 1925 to prove they are a different family although this is the most obvious answer.

I have copies of the relevant 1922 and 1925 electoral rolls but I think they are too large to post.

Any advice gratefully received.

Where are you seeing the electoral rolls....what online source?

What more do you see on the electoral roll for this entry -

"Mrs Mary K Miller in the 1925 electoral roll in Bridgeton"

Who is listed above and below this entry?

Do you ever see Mrs K MILLER before or after 1925?

Thanks for your reply.

The electoral rolls I believe came from Ancestry.

She appears in 1925 with John Miller above, William Mortimer below.

I have struggled with finding the 1925 Mrs K Miller before and after 1925

I have ‘my’ Mary K Miller in 1922 & 1930 in Anderson St.

I have found a Scotlands People entry for a John & Mary Miller 1921 census in Bridgeton aged 27 & 25 respectively. Not yet spent my credits.

‘My’ Mary Miller nee Keown was born in 1892. I have her in the 1921 census in Anderson St aged 28 yrs 11 months.

This would suggest that the above family is different.

can you clarify which Anderson Street you mean when you refer to 11 Anderson Street - at that time period there were 6 of them in the City.

Unfortunately a quick search for a possible marriage for John Miller (or Millar) and a Mary throws up quite a few even with limiting it to 1905 to 1925. Although there are several in the east End areas (Calton, Camlachie and Bridgeton) there are no brides listed with a surname starting with K or even a middle name starting with that letter).

There is a bit of an Urban Myth in Glasgow that families born on one side of the River or the other never crossed it to live elsewhere but like many urban myths it is full of holes. I have several examples of just that in my own lines - although they did tend to move from the North east to the South
