Mary McQuinie
« on: Saturday 29 July 23 21:34 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have a 1861 census with Mary McQuinie recorded in Edinburgh, address 244 Cowgate, she was a widow, aged 50, born Ireland. I have tried the all the other census's but nothing is showing up. She is with Susan McQuinie aged 8, born in Edinburgh, she has boarders, John Simpson aged 46, a Tailor born Kirkcaldy, Fife, Susan Simpson aged 47, born in Edinburgh, John Simpson aged 19, a Tailor, born in Edinburgh. I have done a fair bit of research on the Simpson family. I have also looked at the B,M & D'S, on the OPR and the 1's from 1855 etc.

Hoping I might get some answers.

Ann

Any birth reg for Susan on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk   Downloading her birth cert will give fathers name and Mary's maiden name

Have you checked Scotlands People for a McQuinie death?

Looked on S/P 1851 Mary aged 87, Mary was 50 on the 1861 census, not the right Mary. Back to searching.

I can’t check with Scotlands People at the moment.

Carole has already mentioned the Mary Mc Quanie in 1851 which would seem to be the same one.

The children, Mary, 8 yrs and James 3 yrs are born Leitrim as is Mary, the mother.

Changed my mind here as 1861 has:
Barney McQueeny with wife Mary 40yrs and children Mary 19yrs and James. 14 yrs. There is also a 3 yrs John and a nephew, John, 20 yrs.
