McLean
« on: Sunday 30 July 23 11:38 BST (UK) »
I’m researching for a friend and she is sure her ancestors are from Mull. I can’t however find any of the names she has given me actually in Mull.

I have a John McLean and Jessie McDougall marrying in Easdale in 1891 and this gives Johns parents as Archie McLean and Ann McGregor.

I think it might be Archie and Ann who are the links to Mull.  I was wondering if someone could suggest the best way to proceed.

As Colin has said, Archibald and Ann married 9 July 1843 in the parish of Kilbrandon & Kilchattan, which covers the isle of Easdale.

A search of the 1851 and 1861 census suggests that both Archie and Ann were born in the same place.

Any link to Mull may be further back.

Thank you so much Colin and Nell I really appreciate your help.

My friend is convinced it is the McLean side which originates from Mull.

How would I be able to find that out since Archie and Ann’s marriage won’t have their parents’ names to try find in early census etc.

Their death certificates should tell you the names of their parents.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Both Archibald & Ann were still alive in 1891.  Archibald is not shown in 1901.

Archibald may have died in 1897.  Ann possibly did not died until 1912.
