Incorrect ? Information on Roll
« on: Sunday 30 July 23 12:11 BST (UK) »
Gnr S Watson RGA at 75 Wills Street Smethwick- the Roll says he went to Gallipoli yet the Medal Card for 58410 Swailes Watson doesn't say he was awarded the 1914/15 Star  Is it him?
Can anyone find his address on 1911 Census and 1921 Census to help solve his mystery?

In 1901 he was with his sister Hannah and her husband Henry HURST at 76 Wills Street, Smethwick.  Henry and Hannah were still there in 1911.

I have checked the Medal Rolls and there isn't an entry for a 1914/15 Star.

Looking at the men that were on the same page of the Medal Rolls for the BWM & VM only 3 men qualified for the 1914/15 Star ----

#58401 T Alderson, enlisted 24/8/1915, entered a theatre of war (France) 15/12/1915

#58402 G L Jackson, enlisted 24/8/1915, entered a theatre of war (Balkans) 20/11/1915

#58404 F A Barber, enlisted 25/8/1915, entered a theatre of war (France) 7/11/1915

#58410 S Watson would have enlisted in the last few days of August 1915

EDIT -- meant to add that the image in your second post is not the Rolls

The image in post number 2 is taken from the National Roll of the Great War and care should always be taken with the information against each soldier as the attached image explains. (image courtesy of Ancestry)

I got involved in this case on a Medal Forum where the Family were looking for his missing 3 Medals
When I checked for 58410 he was only awarded two Medals -  No 1914/15 Star
But the Family wouldn't have it because of the Military Biography on Smethwick National Roll of the Great War for a S Watson at the Address next door to his Sisters place in 1901
The Roll looks like he Constructed himself  - not the Army based on the Actual Facts per the Medal Card
He appears to have Remarried in 1919 to Edith while still married to his first Wife Mary Nash who was still Alive
He appears to have been Court Martialed in May 1918 in Portsmouth and I  don't know why or the outcome.
Finding his 1911 & 1921 Census may help solve some

The Roll looks very like the B'ham Roll of Honour held in book form at the B'ham Library.
which as AllanUk has said was compiled from public submitted information.
As he was Court Martialled in the UK sounds as if it may have been an (F)GCM who
may have forfeited his 15 Star (if he ever had one) although this is usually
mentioned on the Medal Roll.

Can anyone find his address on 1911 Census and 1921 Census to help solve his mystery?

The 1921 Census shows that he was living (as a boarder) at 75 Wills Street, Smethwick. The household consists of:

Thomas Watson, head of household, 50 years, born Sunderland
Sarah, wife, 51 years, born Birmingham
Lily, daughter, 23 years, born Birmingham
Thomas, son, 18 years, born Birmingham
Sidney, son, 14 years, born Birmingham
Violet, daughter, 11 years, born Birmingham
Swailes Watson, boarder, 44 years, born Sunderland
Charles Lee, boarder, 21 years, born Birmingham

Thomas Watson could be the brother of Swailes
