MCCORMICK
« on: Sunday 30 July 23 14:29 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am looking for more information about my Great Grandfather ARCHIBALD MCCORMICK

here's what I know

B- 22nd August 1896- bladnoch, wigtownshire (have record)
M- 11th August 1921- dumfries, to Mary Ellen Griffin (have record)
Father- John McCormick
Mother- Mary Pierce
Children- 7, 2 girls and 4 boys survived. a twin of first born girl died. Of those children, Robin John MccCormick (changed spelling to MacCormack later on) was born in 1923.

Unknowns

Archibald's death- Scotland? England? I'm told around 1970.
Story in the family is that he left Ellen and went to Canada?

I have found records of an Archibald travelling to canada with an Isabella- he had a sister called isabella, but no idea if they would have travelled together, I am guessing no way of finding out.

Military-

I believe he was in the RFA and also the 6th Reserve Brigade RFA (possibly not separate things I am not good with military things), and his service number was 651218. I think he was discharged due to injury, I'd love to know more about his military life.

I have been told he ended up in a military hospital and was nursed by Ellen, hence how they met. They seemed to go to Scotland to be married, and then return to the south of england as their children were all born in the salisbury/wiltshire area.

I can't find Archibald again after the marriage in 1921, did he go to Canada, did he not? if so who with? did he come back? how do I find out? I have trawled Ancestry but it's like he doesn't exist.

I wonder if anyone could help me.

thank you in advance

Kirstie

Wow! Thank you.

I have also dug up some info. He did marry Isabella, in Lambeth in 1947, they flew to New York shortly after.
They did trips back and forth in 1953 and 1957, address in Toronto onslow crescent. Couple of Addresses in London, found electoral roles 1946 and 1947, she was mckinna. She was married to an Edward mckinna and widowed before she married Archibald. Address listed on passenger lists when they visited, Overton rd Brixton.
I can’t him coming home, but found her death and gravestone, Toronto
1963.
I’m now imagining the “story” next stop his army records!
Thank you so so much 😊
