1939 Register Query
« on: Monday 31 July 23 08:59 BST (UK) »
I have Kathleen O'Neill born around 1904 who married Joseph Cork in 1926.
Kathleen Cork is shown in the 1939 register but with her last name with a line through it and the codes NTG (I think that means Ashton Under Lyne) and NR 230 and a date of 18-4-51.
If i have it correct does that mean she changed her  name back to O'Neill by deed pol in 1951 for some reason?
See the attachment. Thank you

The code NR230 denotes a change of surname, but not necessarily by Deed Poll.

It could be simply that she decided to revert to the use of her maiden surname and that this came to light, for some reason, some time in 1951 and was noted on the register.

As an example, my mother in law left her husband in the 1960's and went to live with another man, taking his surname. The change of surname came to light and was noted on the register with the code NR230, but there was no Deed Poll involved.
