Marriage of Alfred George Kendrick and May Florence Cooper
« on: Monday 31 July 23 12:21 BST (UK) »
Hello  :)

I'm currently researching my husband's grandfather, Alfred George Kendrick, born 9/10/1907 in West Ham to Alfred Thomas and Emma Lewis. We then know that Alfred married Dorothy Henderson in 1937.

However I've been doing a bit more research and I've discovered a marriage between Alfred George (spelling different) Kendrick and a May Florence Cooper on 25 Dec 1930. The father is Alfred Thomas Kendrick. Place of marriage is the right area, so I'm thinking, that despite nobody knowing, Alfred must have had 2 marriages, first to May and then to Dorothy. May dies in 1934 so makes it quite possible.

However I've also found another marriage entry for the same 2 in Oct 1930 so I'm a bit confused with this anomaly.

I'm also trying to see if there were any children born to Alfred and May before she died. Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Is that Ancestry? They quote the GRO's quarters by the first month rather than the last. So October quarter is Oct/Nov/Dec.

Yes it is Ancestry. Oh that solves that then...so a 25 Dec wedding would still be Oct on their lists?

Hi
Yes it looks like Florence was his first wife and died tragically young
Her death Florence May Kendrick Sep qtr 1934 West Ham age 25 years

In 1911 she was living in Abbey Lane with her parents Albert and Susan
It doesn't look like they had any children

I can't find any children either so I guess that they didn't have any. Would also explain why nobody knew about it. If she died suddenly I suppose Alfred probably didn't like to talk about it. It does seem very sad, but then if she didn't my husband wouldn't be here. I did look to see if maybe there was a death of an infant but haven't yet come across one, as a death in childbirth would explain a young death.

It she died in childbirth her death certificate would show it as the cause. It is likely the baby would have been stillborn, the stillbirths register is closed to the general public.

I looked for a digital copy of the death but the GRO only do digital ones up until 1888.
