Chromosome Browser Myheritage
« on: Tuesday 01 August 23 23:28 BST (UK) »
Has anyone else experienced a missing chromosome browser - shared dna segments.
I recently got a match on Myheritage 1st cousin's son but found it odd the missing section.
All my other matches carry the details but not this person.

If you read up on the processs of DNA Recombination you should see that it is a random action.

The Cousin’s child can easily have received that segment from their other parent.

Did OP mean there’s no picture showing which chromosomes the match is on?
I have several like that. I assume the match has not given general permission for matches to see their DNA. You would have to contact them.

Good morning Biggles50 thank you for your reply but l don't understand  what you say.
Also thank you Jnomad l hadn't realized permission had to be given for matches to view the shared dna. I thought Myheritage had made an error.
I did contact my match a number of times without a reply but l will await

It is very possible that a section or more of DNA (lets call it Z) is not passed on from one Parent to their child, the child may well inherit the Z section from their other Parent.

DNA inheritance is random, if say your Great Great Great Grandfather had a section of DNA again lets say it is called G then his child may not inherit that section, nor will future generations inherit G, it is lost.

This is how sections of your Genetic Family Tree can have massive omissions of DNA matches, there is a Fan Chart on the internet that graphically shows how DNA inheritance can be found to operate.

On the Messaging of DNA match’s front, I have found over the six or so years that we have been working with DNA that getting a response is very much his and miss.  I subscribe to My Heritage and contacted three Match’s and all three responded and I even had telephone conversations with two of them. Ancestry Messages are another matter, little to none is more applicable.

Many thanks for the explanation Biggles50.
I have had many more responses on Myheritage not very successful on Ancestry.
