A long shot, Looking for baby.
« on: Thursday 03 August 23 15:10 BST (UK) »
Hi
Is there somewhere I can search parish records or similar in the Biggleswade, Stotfold area.

I have the death certificate of my Grt Gran who died on the 12th Jan 1916 aged 41. She died eleven days after childbirth.

Her name was Emily Sarah Bottomley (Maiden name Pearce) married to Isaac Bottomley in 1900 Isaac worked at the Three Counties asylum.

They had four son's, William John 1902, Reginald Charles 1905-1953,
Claude 1907-1977, Leslie 1912-1977

I am very curious about the baby he/she was obviously born around the 1st Jan 1916 but I don't know if the baby lived. I thought if I could search parish records for the area it might help find the baby?

I have requested help in the past for the Bottomley Family but cant for life of me remember what it was :) I hope I have not repeated my request.

Thanks

There is no evidence of a birth or death registration for baby around the time of Emilys death. If it was stillborn it would not be on the GRO index.

Just to add that the family were in Arlesey in 1911

If the baby was stillborn, which we have to assume as there is no birth or death registration, if the baby drew breath there would have had to be a record.

There  is unlikely to be any record in Parish Records. If the birth occurred in hospital, they would most likely have disposed of the body.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to help.

Hi Comberton, I did have a feeling I had asked before but wasn't sure. Wow 2007 I think I was just starting on my family tree search and was clueless. Improved a little  ;D I tried to find out that much at the beginning I got myself in a right pickle.

Thanks again.

The son William John Bottomley has a DOB of 11 January 1902 on the 1939 register.

His death is recorded Witham Essex 1974 age 72 - same DOB

On ancestry changed to Hitchin Herts. re death registration
