Where was John Laight in 1841?
« on: Thursday 03 August 23 15:17 BST (UK) »
I’d appreciate a second pair of eyes to look for John Laight, who seems to be missing from the 1841 Census.

Baptised in Kington in 1808, parents Thomas & Ann Laight
Not with wife Diana in Dormstone in 1841
He was a labourer (presumably an ag lab)
Not at father’s farm (Cockshot Farm)
Died in 1846 in Dormstone (Diana informant), buried in Kington

What was his cause of death?

Died suddenly, no medical attendant, no known cause, and no inquest as far as I know.

Thought he may have been in asylum or WH.  Can't see Diana in Worcs in 1841 - do you have census ref?  Who is she with?

I think you'll find that Caroline, and Felix were the children of John Laight and Diana/Dianah/Dinah.

Thanks. Yes, my silly mistake. (I need to take more breaks ::) ) I was getting confused with the 1851 Census, when her brother, Arthur Ballinger, was with her. He had been at Cockshot Farm in 1841 with Thomas and Ann Laight, John’s parents.

I can’t see John on either FindMyPast or Ancestry in 1841. Unless his name has been mistranscribed (or was maybe given inaccurately by the landlord of an inn he was at or something) he may, I suppose, have simply been missed off the census somehow.
