Death of Lucy Cottrill 1902
« on: Saturday 05 August 23 16:42 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

I’m trying to establish the circumstances of the death of a Lucy Cottrill in Christchurch, Hampshire in 1902. She was the wife of a wealthy businessman from Bolton Lancashire called Felix Cotterill. Lucy was only 35yrs old. Was wondering if there was an inquest reported about her death. Thanks in advance. Jayhen

Her death certificate will show if an Inquest was held; it will also give the name of the Coroner.

Probably best to get a copy of her death certificate and see what information that gives.

Many thanks Sandra. Hoping there may have been more information as she was quite young at the time of her death and belonged to a privileged family.

Very sad  :'(  Did wonder if it could have been a passing in child birth but sadly found nothing to help there.

Might be a simple health issue or smallpox, malaria and tuberculosis were also prevalent at that time ?

She might have been in Bournemouth “for the good of her health”.  Sea Air .
The death certificate will give the cause of death.

Yes, very true. I’ve noted that on the 1901 Census there was a ‘Lady’s nurse’ living with the family..

Many thanks
