Hi
James Collings on 1881census in Pelynt is living with:

Sarah (wife) Born c1841 Lanreath
Children:
Sophia c1870 Lansallos (can't find her on gro)
Philippa c1872 (only one I can find on gro is 1875 mmn blank)
James c1876 (two I can find on gro: 1874 mmn blank and 1875 mmn Pointer)
Herbert c1877 (this is the direct ancestor. On gro b1877 mmn Lee)
Rhoda c1880 (on gro Rhoda Harriet b1879 mmn Lee)
Lucy c1881 (only one on gro is Lucy Truscott Collings b1881 mmn Pointer)

1891 living in talland.

James, Sarah, Lucy (now with initial F ... Checked original, not a transcription error), Philippa (now with initial A and surname Lee, says single and daughter) and grandson Percy A Lee born c1889

1901 James, Sarah and Rhoda.

1911 James, Sarah, married 42years. Lucy (now with surname Hender. Says married 4 years)  and grandsons Francis born c 1908 Talland and Harold born c1909 Devonport, Devon.

I think I have James senior's parents as Thomas Collings born about 1817 Pelynt and Lucy c1818 Tregony. Marriage to Lucy Truscott 1839 Cuby with Tregony.

I have them on censuses from 1841 to 1881  (I haven't looked further yet ) with these children. Obviously dates are approx until I check them on gro.

John 1843, Elizabeth 1845, James 1846, Mariah 1849, Richard 1850, Peter 1852, William Thomas 1854, George 1859.


I'm not too worried about all the siblings, other than Herbert Ernest's. I can't work out the Lee/ Pointer mmn connection. Also want to find Herbert Ernest's grandparents on his mother ... Lee's side.

There is an ancestry tree which gives

Philip Johns A'Lee and Sarah Pointer married 24 th October 1863  - Liskeard, Cornwall.

spouse Sarah Pointer


Philip passes away in 1873

Philip Johns A'lee  - 1838 - 1873  (aged 35 years)

Hmmm ... A de facto marriage may well be the case.

What is strange though, is no mmn for Philippa, even though Sarah would've been married to Philip at the time. Then Pointer for James, then Lee for Herbert and Rhoda and then back to Pointer for Lucy with Truscott, which would've been her paternal grandmother's maiden name.

Still can't even find a baptism for Sophia and I thought she might be on th 1871 census.
