Trying to find Thomas Silvester coming to Australia
« on: Saturday 05 August 23 23:09 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I've been researching William John Batson b. 1808 Norwich England, who was transported to Australia 1830.  He married Elizabeth Silvester in 1843 who was daughter of Thomas Silvester, we think a Convict, still trying to find when he arrived in Australia, as there seems to be different spellings for Silvester and Sylvester.     Elizabeth is shown in marriage application documents as being a Native of the Colony, so definitely born here in Australia.

Wonder if there is anyone who can assist me to find the correct Father of Elizabeth please, various information appears on Ancestry, some maybe showing her Father arrived on the "Brothers" in the Third Fleet, but not totally sure that is correct.

Thanks in advance.    Jan

..... some maybe showing her Father arrived on the "Brothers" in the Third Fleet, but not totally sure that is correct.

This might be the Thomas Sylvester who came FREE onboard “Brothers” in 1807 .
He was born abt 1772. He married Mary Jones in 1810 in NSW. They had a child named Harriett in 1820, Windsor.

The third fleet arrived in 1791. There was a convict named Thomas Silvester from Bedford? with a 7 year sentence.

When was your Elizabeth born? How old was she when she married? Where did she marry?

Elizabeth Silvester and William Batson were granted permission to marry (he being a Convict) in 1843, he was aged 35 years, no age given for Elizabeth Silvester, they were married at Bungonia near Goulburn.   They had a son William Batson b. 1843 at Lake George near Canberra.
No age for Elizabeth, but we are guessing 1810 if Thomas Silvester is the correct father.

No age for Elizabeth, but we are guessing 1810 ......

Looks like Elizabeth's last child was born in 1864. So I would think she is probably born later than 1810.
The birth certificates of her later children as well as her death cert. should give her age.

Yes, I wondered about that, but do you still feel that Thomas Silvester is her father who arrived 1807.

Where do you see that her father’s name was Thomas?

Can you please list all the information on the marriage certificate, 1843.

It would be useful to know if Elizabeth and William sign their names.

Names of witnesses would be useful to know.

What documents do you have for BDM events in the lives of William, Elizabeth and their children?
