It appears the Henry and Elizabeth HUGHES marriage wasn't a sucessful one either:

"WHEREAS my wife ELIZABETH HUGHES, having foresaken her home without any just cause or provocation, I hereby caution the Public against giving her credit on my account, as I will not be responsible for any debts she may contract after this notice.
HENRY HUGHES

That's interesting too.

So now getting back to Elizabeth's Father Thomas Hill, am wondering where he was living when he arrived in Australia, if Elizabeth was born in 1818 at Windsor, maybe he was a Convict.

I did have a bit of a look earlier when his name was mentioned but there are lots of men of the same name which makes it almost impossible to narrow it down.   :(  I'll have another look later.

Hi again,
I have found a Thomas Hill b. 1758 Shrewsbury Shropshire England, he arrived in the First Fleet January 1788, convicted for 7 years for stealing silver watch from a shop.   He then was sent to Pinchgut Island for 8 days for another conviction on the 12th February, 1788.

Whether this was Father of Elizabeth Hill b. 1818 at Windsor, cannot be sure.   But certainly Elizabeth was Native of the Colony when she married William John Batson the Convict, as shown in his application for marriage at Sutton Forest.

So many with the name 'Thomas Hill' -
The 1828 New South Wales, Australia Census shows at least 5 men of that name who arrived NSW 1818 or earlier, any of whom could have been the father of Elizabeth.   There are others listed on the New South Wales, Australia, Settler and Convict Lists, 1787-1834  ???

Judith,
Well maybe we will finally get to find the right Thomas Hill eventually.   All we know is that Elizabeth was born at Windsor.
Thank you anyway.

She had an older sister Eleanor born March of 1812.
John Hill and Mary Neale married 24 May 1813 ar St Mathew’s Windsor.

In 1842 Elizabeth left Antonio, presumely taking her daughter with her.
Antonio placed an ad stating her would not be responsible for his wife’s debts and he would prosecute anyone harbouring her.
Australasian Chronicle, Sydney NSW 1839-1843) Tue 1 Feb 1842 page 3

Welcome to RootsChat Ben66son, I'm sure Jan will be pleased ot hear from you.

Out of interest, is Elizabeth's father named John HILL on her marriage to Antonio SILVESTER or William BATSON?
