Grandpa's First Name?
« on: Monday 07 August 23 02:40 BST (UK) »
Need help with Grandpa's first name
16x20 portrait purchased from Appleton, WI (USA)

Written on the back:
Great Grandpa
Grandpa Ad?????? Smith
Aunt Ida Moline

I found Ida Moline results with a search near Appleton
But no Smith family members

Also, as a side item:
Any guesses on why these children were painted by the artist as sad?
I know most people in photos from this era were asked not to smile, but the person who did the pencil work on this enlargement seems to have really given them downcast eyes.
Perhaps just my imagination.

I also at first though Adelaide, but that seems to be a girl's name.

I offer
Adlaie Stevenson Smith     As indexed on Ancestry, so hopefully you can find.   Born 25 Jan 1893

He had a sister Ida Bridget who married Carl Moline.

Oh, that looks very likely, thanks!
When I searched on FamilySearch I set the state as Wisconsin.
Of, course families, and their pictures are often on the move.
Lesson learned.
