Amy Butler 1851 English Census
« on: Monday 07 August 23 09:45 BST (UK) »
Amy Butler (1849-1927) born Tipton, Staffordshire, died Pennsylvania USA.  I think her middle name may have been Marie.  She was married to Thomas Ceney (who was a brother of my Gt Gt Grandfather Robert Ceney.  Her parents were Henry and Francis.

I am unable to find Amy in an 1851 English Census, which is what I need help with please.

In the 1861 Census, her age says she was 9.

So, I must have her year of birth incorrectly?

Could this be her. If so she was born in 1853 so wouldn't be on the 1851 census

Frances and Henry are on the 1851 census in Tipton on Ancestry for some reason Frances is down as Rosella but it has been corrected

Frances was married before to a William Cutts and she has two children from that marriage with the family on the 1851 census

Emma Butler, b J quarter, 1849, Dudley. MMN Lowe

She is on 1851 census but her name is Emma, not Amey.

Not sure which is the correct one. Emma, Amey of Hamar?

These are the births from the GRO with MMN Lowe for the years 1846 to 1853. The names seem to match the 1861 census..

Thank you, that's very helpful,  I have Harriet, Emma, Elizabeth already, but it appears Amy was called Hamar(?)

Do the digital copies of Birth Certificates contain the same info as if I ordered them from the Registry Office?

Thank you for your reply, yes I have found Frances was previously married to William Cutts and had two children.

I have now found the 1851 Census you mentioned above, with "Rosella"  I can see this on Ancestry, which I am not subscribed to (at the moment!)

However..... I do have a free 2 week subscription on MyHeritage.com, but I'm struggling to find anything relevant to what I'm searching for.  Almost like they thinking.... nope we're not showing you what you want to see, til you pay us a fee!! (Do these websites work like that? ???)

However, it doesn't appear that Amy is listed with her family, so her DOB must be later.

Thanks everyone for your help.

The digital images contain the same information as the certificates, they don't have the headings etc. You can't use them for any official purposes. Once you pay, you get a link and you can download them straight away
