Harriet PAICE born 1816 Yateley Hampshire
« on: Thursday 10 August 23 15:27 BST (UK) »
Hi,  I am trying to find out more about Harriet Paice, the daughter of William Paice and his wife Ann Hood.   Harriet was baptised on 15th December 1816 and was their eighth child, sixth daughter.   I cannot find her on any censuses but believe she was not married as William's will just mentions Harriet and not Harriet, wife of.... as he does for all his other daughters.   So I am working on the premise that she wasn't married in 1849 when the will was written and signed.

I have found another tree that suggests she may have married a James Warner in Westend, South Stoneham in 1852, but I cannot find a copy of the original document to check against.   The 1861 Census for James and Harriet Warner does state Harriet was born in Yateley (as does the 1871 Census) so it may well be her.   The BMD record for the marriage gives her name as Harriet Price, so I am still trying to find another piece of evidence that confirms she is Harriet Paice born in Yateley to William Paice.

Is anyone able to help?

TIA

Ellenmaggie

Possible match in the 1851 census (pre-marriage); she is working as a cook in Fareham:

Thank you - that is her - the 1851 shows her with her niece Harriet Giles!   For some reason I forgot to use Family Search - thank you!

I found her on Ancestry - she was transcribed as Harriet Jaice - I have made the amendment.   Thank you everyone

It is interesting that there are two marriages that could fit -  3 April 1852 West End, Southampton - but has Harriet's name as Price and then there is another at Droxford in 1852  for a Harriet Paice (spelt correctly) to possibly Thomas Cooper or George Spratt.   My interest is piqued as the tree that has Harriet married to James Warner has a son William James Apedaile Stackhouse Warner - born 1844 in Alton, although registered as William Warner, with mother maiden name Cooper.     William James A S Warner died on 3 March 1908 and was a publican.   None of this makes any sense but I find it interesting that the name Cooper has cropped up twice in searches..........  This is what makes family history so fascinating!

The birth certificate for William James Apedaile Stackhouse Warner born June 1853 confirms that Harriet Warner was indeed Harriet Paice.    I now have all the proof I need to confirm that that is her.

Interesting first names for William James though.......I wonder what the significance is.... William would be for Harriet's father, James for her husband....but Apedaile and Stackhouse.....
